Web traffic: FAQ

By now, we’ve covered the key aspects of TikTok Web Traffic.

In our previous articles, we looked at what Web Traffic is and how to build a strategy around it, how to set up a Web Traffic campaign, and which creative formats you can use to get the most out of the objective.

Here we'll answer the most common questions advertisers have about TikTok Web Traffic — from optimization and measurement to choosing the right setup for your account.

“Aren't we just paying for clicks?”

Not necessarily.

Clicks are only one of the available optimization options.

LPV requires the landing page to load, while Engaged Sessions use a deeper engagement signal. The strategic direction is therefore to move away from evaluating traffic solely by clicks.

“Isn't this a step backward from conversion optimization?”

No.

Web Traffic adds another layer to the funnel rather than replacing conversion optimization.

It can help generate demand, build audiences, and provide additional signals before users reach the conversion stage.

“Won't Traffic cannibalize my conversion budget?”

It does not have to.

The recommended approach is to test Traffic as a separate layer while keeping the core conversion campaigns intact.

The cited TikTok results show that the combination of Traffic and Performance campaigns can outperform Performance campaigns alone, with +23% CVR, −36% CPA, and 5× higher budget utilization in the reported comparison.

“How can I verify that the traffic is actually valuable?”

Use website analytics alongside TikTok reporting.

Look at engagement, session duration, bounce rate, engaged sessions, and assisted conversions rather than relying on CPC alone.

The source materials also note that Engaged Session can provide relatively close measurement alignment with Google Analytics and Adobe for pixel-based advertisers.

“We already have good traffic. Why do we need this?”

If traffic quality is already strong, a simple Clicks versus LPV test can help determine whether deeper optimization creates incremental value.

The strategy materials cite a Gupta Media test in which moving from Clicks to LPV reduced the cost of a landing-page session by 79.6%, reduced cost per second by 23.6%, and increased CVR by 79 basis points.

“We don't have resources for new creatives.”

You may not need them.

Existing Meta creatives can be imported and adapted, landing-page assets can be turned into AIGC carousel creatives, and TikTok's creative team can support branded assets where available.
